I’ve been a fan of the Green Bay Packers way back to the Brett Favre days. When the rumors started to fly that he may leave the Packers, I planned my very first sports road trip – a trip to Green Bay for a Packers game.

My first trip to Lambeau Field in Green Bay was such a magical experience, I went back again during the Aaron Rodgers era and it was equally incredible. I’m here to share my experiences to help you book your own trip to see a Green Bay Packers home game at Lambeau Field.

It’s an exciting time to be a Packers fan with Jordan Love signing a record setting contract extension. With an energetic, young team around him, it feels like there is no limit to what the Packers can accomplish. I’ve seen Jordan Love play on a boy’s trip to Las Vegas for a Raiders game, but I can’t wait to go back to Green Bay to see Jordan Love play in front of the Packers faithful.

Lambeau Field is holy ground for any NFL fan. No matter if you are a die-hard Packers fan, or if you’d like to watch your team play the Packers at Lambeau, you simply can’t miss going to a Packers home game at Lambeau Field. It’s a sports road trip you’ll never forget!

A DIY Green Bay Packers Tour Package

When you do a search for “Green Bay Packers Travel Package“, you’ll get a ton of results with tour companies willing to plan your sports road trip for you. I used one of these sports tour companies for my first ever NFL game at Lambeau Field, and can attest that they do a great job, but be aware they will charge a healthy premium for their services.

Why pay a premium to a specialty sports tour travel agency, when it’s super easy to book your own sports trip to see a Green Bay Packers home game at Lambeau Field. Ever since my very first sports road trip to see Brett Favre play, I’ve been booking my own sports road trips. I’ve been doing this for over a decade now and I am excited to share my knowledge with you how easy it is to go to an NFL game in Green Bay, WI!

Brett Favre of the Green Bay Packers wears home jersey #4.

My guide to attending a Green Bay Packers home game takes you through step-by-step everything you need to know to have an incredible sports road trip. I’ll guide you through how to get to Green Bay, where the Packers play, how to find great seats at Lambeau Field, fun things to do in Green Bay and so much more.

My Green Bay Sports Road Trips

As mentioned, my first trip to Green Bay was through a Green Bay Packers Travel Package. This was my very first NFL game and I was happy to pay the premium price to have it done right. Since this trip, I’ve booked every single NFL road trip by myself and the trips have been every bit as good, if not better, as I was able to spend more money on tickets, etc., instead of paying a premium price to a tour agency.

My most recent trip to Green Bay was a true DIY sports road trip, which I booked myself. It began by flying into Chicago and catching a Friday night Chicago Cubs game at Wrigley Field. On Saturday, we drove to nearby South Bend, Indiana to catch the legendary Notre Dame Fighting Irish play the Vanderbilt Commodores. On Sunday, we were in Green Bay to watch an NFC North tilt between the Packers and the Vikings. Then on Monday, we caught a Monday Night Football game at Soldier Field between the Bears and the Seahawks.

All of the information provided below is based on my real-life experiences going to Green Bay for a Packers game. I’m confident you’ll find booking your own DIY Green Bay Packers Travel Package is as easy as I found it.

How to Get to Green Bay, Wisconsin

Option 1: Flying to Green Bay, WI

Packer fans flying to Green Bay will land at the Green Bay–Austin Straubel International Airport (Airport Code: GRB). With only 5 airlines flying into Green Bay, primarily from within the other NFC markets, it’s sometimes hard to a good flight into Green Bay. If you are flying from outside an NFC city, chances are good that you’ll require at least one connection to fly into Green Bay.

Located on the western edge of Green Bay, it’s approximately a 10 minute drive from the Green Bay–Austin Straubel International Airport to Lambeau Field, home of the Packers.

There is a public bus which runs from the airport to Lambeau, but only on game days. This bus route is known as the Cheesehead Route (Route 29). More info on this below…

Given how small Green Bay is, it should be reasonably cheap to get around by Uber, but don’t rely on it to get anywhere after the game. For ultimate convenience, you’ll want your own rental car.

Option 2: Flying into Chicago and Driving to Green Bay

Both times I’ve gone on a sports road trip to Green Bay, I’ve flown into Chicago O’Hare. This was for two reasons:

1) It was much cheaper to fly into Chicago than it was to fly into Green Bay. In my experience, the price of a flight into Green Bay around Packers game days is not cheap.

2) Despite being a life-long Packer fan, I gotta admit that I love the city of Chicago – it’s a pretty cool town (even if the Bears suck – haha!).

It’s an easy and enjoyable 3 hour drive from Chicago O’Hare to Lambeau Field, virtually all on interstate highways.

Driving to Green Bay

If your trip to Green Bay, WI goes beyond catching a Packers game and you want to see the other top Green Bay attractions such as, ahem… Chicago, I recommend you get a rental car.

Green Bay is a small city with a metropolitan area population of approximately 330,000. I’ve always found it easy to get around Green Bay by car as they have a good road system and the traffic is usually pretty light. This, of course, changes dramatically after Green Bay Packers games at Lambeau Field, when over 80,000 Packers faithful leave the stadium at once.

Driving past Lambeau for the first time was very exciting!

If you are taking your own car on a sports road trip to Green Bay, keep in mind you’ll need to find a hotel near Lambeau Field which offers parking.

Where do the Green Bay Packers Play?

Since relocating from the old City Stadium, the Green Bay Packers have played their home games at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, WI. Lambeau Field was originally also called City Stadium, but was renamed in 1965 to honor the recently deceased Curly Lambeau.

The iconic statue of Curly Lambeau outside the stadium which he was named after - Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Lambeau Field

One of the things I find most amazing about Lambeau Field is it’s location – it’s literally surrounded on all sides by single-family homes. One minute, you’re walking down a normal residential street, and the next minute, you’re staring at the most famous stadium in the NFL. It’s incredible!

With a seating capacity of 81,441 for NFL games, Lambeau Field is the second largest stadium in the NFL. Despite it’s size, Lambeau doesn’t feel like a massive stadium – there’s just something about it which makes it feel very homey and welcoming.

A view of Lambeau Field from the upper levels of the end zone.

Where is Lambeau Field?

As mentioned, Lambeau Field is not in downtown Green Bay – it’s in the heart of Green Bay suburbia! Being a small city, it’s only a 10 minute drive from downtown to the stadium in normal traffic, but it’s obviously longer on game days.

Lambeau Field Address: 1265 Lombardi Ave, Green Bay, WI 54304

Is Lambeau Field Stadium in a Safe Neighborhood?

Walking through the residential neighborhoods surrounding Lambeau Field, you feel like you are in Anywhere, USA (you know… aside from the massive football stadium next door). Anytime you have a sports stadium in the suburbs, it’s going to be much safer than an inner city stadium.

A view of the houses surrounding Lambeau Field taken from inside the stadium.
A view of the surrounding houses – taken from inside Lambeau Field.

Despite the fact that Green Bay is (surprisingly) a below-average city for safety in the USA, the areas around Lambeau Field are among the safest in the city. The areas north of the stadium tend to be safer than those south. If you are concerned, check out the map at CrimeGrade.org.

Unless you are quite unlucky, you’re likely going to attend your first game at the Packers stadium without incident. Improve your odds by finding a secure place to park your rental car near the stadium, or get a good hotel near Lambeau Field.

Parking at Lambeau Field

All of the parking lots around Lambeau Field are committed to season parking pass holders. But, that’s ok as nearly every single house surrounding the Packers’ stadium offers game day parking on their lawns.

My first trip to Green Bay, I simply left my rental car at the hotel and walked to Lambeau for the game. On my second visit to Green Bay, I reserved a spot for my rental car on someone’s lawn near the stadium. It was nice knowing I had a parking spot reserved near the stadium, but it turns out I didn’t really need a reservation. There is lawn parking literally everywhere near the stadium.

Take the Bus to Lambeau Field

An alternative to stadium parking is to take one of the Green Bay Metro bus routes to Lambeau Field on game day. Green Bay Metro has four special bus routes which run on the days of Packers home games. Get route maps and schedules at the Green Bay Metro Game Day page.

Green Bay Packers Schedule

Over the course of a full NFL season, the Green Bay Packers will play either 8 or 9 home games at Lambeau Field. In odd numbered years (2025, 2027, etc.) the Packers will play 8 regular season home games, while in the even numbered years (2024, 2026, etc.) the Packers will play 9 regular season home games.

The Green Bay Packers home games will be scheduled as follows:

Three of the Green Bay Packers home games each season will be against fellow NFC North division rivals (Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions and the Minnesota Vikings).

Adrian Peterson in his rookie season with the Minnesota Vikings.

Two home games will be against teams from a specific division in the NFC Conference

One home game will be from a team in a different division in the NFC Conference (based on division rankings the previous season)

Two home games will be against teams from a specific division in the AFC Conference

The ‘ninth’ home game will be from a team in a different division in the AFC Conference (again, based on division rankings the previous season).

Best Green Bay Packers Games to Get Tickets For

As the team which has earned the most NFL victories and league championships, the Green Bay Packers have developed some intense rivalries over the years. Whenever one of the teams the Green Bay Packers have a rivalry with plays at Lambeau Field, it’s virtually guaranteed to be an exciting game.

Excited fans cheer for the Green Bay Packers at a home game at Lambeau Field.

Games Against Division Rivals

The Green Bay Packers play in the NFC North division in the National Football Conference. There are three other teams in the NFC North including the Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears and the Minnesota Vikings.

Of their NFC North rivals, the Green Bay Packers biggest rival is the Chicago Bears. Remember Aaron Rodgers yelling to the Chicago crowd, “All my F***ing life, I own you!!“? Ya, I love this rivalry! In fact the Packers & Bears rivalry is the oldest in the league, with the teams having played each other over 200 times! The Bears dominated the early decades of the rivalry, but since the 1990’s, the Packers have won over 75% of their games.

A green Bay Packers fan at Lambeau Field wears a white T-shirt with the caption, "Minnesota Sucks, Chicago Swallows".

A fun new development in the NFC North is the emergence of the Detroit Lions. After decades of underperforming, the Lions have emerged as the team to beat in the NFC North. They were just 4 points away from going to the 2023-24 Super Bowl, losing the NFC Championship Game in a very close matchup with the San Francisco 49ers.

As luck would have it, both of the Green Bay Packers games I’ve attended at Lambeau were against the Minnesota Vikings. The heated atmosphere in the crowd for NFC North division games is electric and is something that shouldn’t be missed!

Games Against Legendary NFL Teams and Former Rivals

Who could pass up seeing the Packers play a legendary NFL team such as the Dallas Cowboys or the San Francisco 49’ers? A game against a current NFL powerhouse like the Kansas City Chiefs would also be a memorable game.

2024-25 Green Bay Packers Home Schedule

There’s a lot of great Green Bay Packers home games in 2024! Not only are 2023 NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers coming to town, but the electrifying Miami Dolphins are too!

Finding The Best Seats in Lambeau Field

With a seating capacity in excess of 80,000, there’s a great seat in Lambeau Field for everyone! Based on my experiences, here are my recommendations to find the best seats for your upcoming Green Bay Packers home game:

NFL fans watch the Packers play the Vikings in an NFC North match at Lambeau Field.

Lower Bowl Between the 20 Yard Lines

I’ve been to many games in various NFL stadiums around the league, I can tell you that the best seats for your first Packers game are in the lower bowl, along the sidelines, between the 20-yard lines. Sitting in the lower bowl allows you to be close to the action, where you’ll witness the raw speed of the game and actually feel the impact of the tackles.

My recommendation is to try to sit in row 20 or higher, if possible. If you sit too close to the field, you’ll be turning your head a lot as the play goes up-and-down the field. In addition, you risk having your view occasionally blocked by a mobile, elevated TV camera.

The lower bowl seats at Lambeau Field are all bleacher style seats with no seat backs. You can rent seat backs at many of the stadium entrances if this is a concern.

Yes, the Packers single game tickets in the lower bowl near the 50 yard line are going to cost a lot, but if you can find room in your budget, they are worth it. Personally, I always spend less on my hotel room so I can get better seats to the football game.

For my first Packers game at Lambeau Field, I sat in Section 123, row 32. My seat was on the 30 yard line and I was high enough to have an exceptional view of the game, yet close enough to feel part of it.

The view of the Packers vs Vikings NFL game at Lambeau Field from Section 123, Row 32.
Amazing seats for my first Green Bay Packers game!

My seats were even better for my second Packers game at Lambeau. I sat in 121, row 18. These seats were just shy of the 40 yard line and were very close to the action. These were probably the best seats I’ve had for an NFL game in my life.

My Recommended Sections at Lambeau Field for Lower Bowl Seats

Lambeau Field has a really unusual way of numbers their sections – they do not increase sequentially as you wrap around the stadium. Please be careful when choosing your Lambeau Field seats to ensure you are in the area you intended.

Even numbered sections 116 – 124 (Packers bench side – east facing)

Odd numbers sections 115 – 123 (Visitors bench side – west facing)

Best Value Seats – Lower Bowl Corners

Ok, so the lower bowl sideline tickets are the best seats in Lambeau Field. Well, guess what? They are also among the most expensive seats at Lambeau Field too. If you are looking for great seats for your first Packers game, but don’t want to spend a ton of cash, try getting a ticket in one of the lower bowl corner sections.

As with the lower bowl sideline tickets, try not to sit too close. If you are 20 rows or higher, you’ll enjoy an incredible view of the field and you’ll never have to move your head to follow the play.

The best part is that lower bowl corner seats at Lambeau Field often sell for 25 – 50% of the price of the lower bowl sideline tickets.

Recommended Sections at Lambeau Field for Lower Bowl Corner Seats

Sections 130, 132 and 134 (facing northwest)

Sections 129, 131 and 133 (facing northeast)

Sections 106, 108, 110 (facing southeast)

Sections 105, 107 and 109 (facing southwest)

Upper Level – Between the 20’s

And finally, some of the upper level sideline tickets at Lambeau Field can also offer good value for your money. Many fans prefer to sit in the upper decks as they can see the plays develop more easily, and the atmosphere is often more fun than in the more expensive lower bowls.

If possible, sit as low as possible in the upper deck, but avoid the first few rows as there is a safety bar running along the balcony which may partially obstruct your view. As with most of the stadium, the seats in the upper levels are on steel, bleacher style benches.

The upper level sideline sections on the east side of Lambeau are expensive Outdoor Club seats, but the 300-level sections on the west side of Lambeau are general seating.

A view of the bleacher seats at Lambeau Field, including the 300 levels seats.
The 300 level seats are the thin strip of seats below the suites.

Note, that typically NFL seats in the upper level along the sidelines are often comparable in cost to the lower bowl corner seats, but this is not always the case at Lambeau Field. The 300-level upper level sideline sections are often priced in the resale market at the same level or higher than the lower bowl sideline seats.

I don’t get it… I’ve seen some chatter that you’re protected from the wind up here, but I don’t see the value proposition about sitting way higher in the stadium for the same price. It’s not like they are club seats. Please email me if I’m missing something here…

You can sometimes find a good deal in the upper level at Lambeau between the 20 yard lines, but if you can’t, I’d look for seats elsewhere in the stadium.

Sideline Club Level Seats

Being the legendary home of the “Ice Bowl”, Lambeau Field is renowned as being a cold weather stadium. And it’s true, as Lambeau Field is an open air stadium in the northern USA, there’s a decent chance it will be cold on Packers game day – especially in November, December and the NFL playoffs. One really cool feature the outdoor Club Level seats have in Lambeau Field is heated seats!

Sideline club level seats are one tier above the lower level seats, offering a great vantage point to watch your first Packers game in comfort.

How to Buy Green Bay Packers Tickets

Ticketmaster is the official ticket seller for the National Football League. Given the Packers have a legendary season ticket waiting list over 50 years long, you will have to look for single game Packers tickets in the reseller market.

A massive USA flag is displayed mid-field on Lambeau Field before a Green Bay Packers home game.

When I look for single game NFL tickets, I tend to jump between the three biggest ticket resellers – Ticketmaster, StubHub and Vivid Seats. I have purchased tickets from all three ticket platforms and don’t really have a preference, although StubHub usually has the best selection. I browse all three to find the best seats I can find in my price range – then I simply buy them, regardless of which reseller it’s on.

Best Hotels for a Green Bay Packers Home Game

If you are attending a Green Bay Packers home game from out of town, you’ll need to find a good place to stay near Lambeau Field. Regardless of your budget, I’m confident you’ll find a great place to stay for the Packers game. Just remember – spend less on your hotel room to free up more cash for better Packers tickets!

How to Dress for a Green Bay Packers Home Game

The question of how to dress for a Green Bay Packers home game is a really tough one – especially if you are from out-of-town and need to pack for the game several days ahead of time.

Green Bay, Wisconsin is the northern-most city in the NFL. Every football fan knows that it can get COLD at Lambeau Field! When the NFL season begins in September, the average daily high/low temperatures in Green Bay are a pleasant 71° / 52° (22° / 11°C). As the playoffs begin in January, the average daily high/low temperatures drop to a bone-chilling 26° / 10° (-3° / -12°C).

A picture of the crowd at Lambeau Field shows how people dress for a Green Bay Packers game.

The key to dressing for a Green Bay Packers home game is to dress in layers:

  • Wear a base layer to wick moisture away from your skin.
  • Your middle layer is designed to retain your body heat.
  • Your outer layer should protect your from the wind, rain and snow.

REI has an excellent guide to dressing in layers which will help you properly dress for a Packers home game, no matter the weather.

Sitting outside in the cold for 3+ hours can be a big challenge sometimes. In addition to dressing in layers, I recommend warm winter boots, a thick Packers toque and pair of electronic hand warmers.

Lambeau Field Guide

In this guide to attending a Green Bay Packers game at Lambeau Field, I’ve included all the major details to ensure you have the best sports road trip ever. Stadium policies are changing all the time, so rather than list them here, take a few minutes to review the Lambeau Field “A-Z Guide“.

This handy stadium guide explains everything from parking, to the alcohol and bag policies. I highly recommend flipping through the guide before your Packers game to ensure you are fully prepared.

One thing to note, is that the Packers follow the NFL clear bag policy. If you want to bring layers if clothes, sunglasses, etc. to the game, make sure it’s in a clear bag which complies with the NFL clear bag policy.

Best Things to do in Green Bay on Game Days

Explore Titletown

A reasonably new development around Lambeau Field is the development of the Titletown District. Seen on virtually every single televised Packers game (especially in winter), Titletown is where you’ll find the now-famous giant outdoor tubing hill (Ariens Hill).

The attractions at Titletown go well beyond the signature tubing hill. Just steps from Lambeau Field, Packers fans can enjoy an exciting mix of entertainment, dining and activities both before and after Packer home games.

Tailgating

Whenever I visit a new city for an NFL game, I’m always super jealous of the fans who live in the city who can set up shop and tailgate for hours before a game. The great news for out-of-town NFL fans is they can also have their own Green Bay Packers tailgating experience.

A van painted in Green Bay Packers team colors is used for tailgating at Lambeau Field before a Green Bay Packers home game.

The VIP Tailgating Experience is an indoor-outdoor all-inclusive tailgating party at The Bar on Holmgren Way, just a short walk from the stadium.

Guests at this all-inclusive tailgating party near Lambeau Field will enjoy unlimited beer and authentic Wisconsin buffet food. Tailgating parties such as this are a great option for out-of-towners who want to enjoy a party before the game, but don’t have the ability to actually tailgate at the stadium.

Experience The Atrium

Another quintessential experience on Packers game day is to spend some time in the beautiful Lambeau Field Atrium. A beautiful (and warm) indoor space, you’ll find the Packers Hall of Fame museum and the Packers Pro Shop.

The exterior of the Lambeau Field Atrium in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

If you want to visit the Packers Hall of Fame on game day, it’s highly recommended you buy your tickets online ahead of time. If you have the time in your itinerary, why not do it as part of a combo tour with a Lambeau Field stadium tour?

Likewise, if you plan on a visit to the Packers Pro Shop, go as early as you can. Of all the pro shops I’ve been to around the NFL, the Packers Pro Shop is the craziest! This is the best place to buy an authentic & licensed Cheesehead – the best souvenir you can buy from your Green Bay Packers trip!

Best Things to do in Green Bay Aside from a Packers Game

If you are coming to Green Bay for a Packers home game, why not come early and make a weekend of it? There are so many awesome things to do in Green Bay aside from going to a Packers game. Here are a few ideas for things to do in Green Bay during your sports road trip:

Lambeau Field Stadium Tour

One of my most treasured memories from my trips to Green Bay is when I got to walk through the players tunnel onto the playing field of the legendary Lambeau Field. I still get chills thinking about it – I’m genuinely not kidding!

I’ll never forget walking through the tunnel to the field at Lambeau!
