With 2 National League Championships and 1 World Series title, the Arizona Diamondbacks are one of the most exciting franchises in Major League Baseball. And, lucky for baseball fans, attending a D-backs home game is super easy.

No matter if you are coming to Phoenix on a boys’ road trip to see the Diamondbacks play, on a business trip or family vacation, you can’t miss going to a D-backs game at Chase Field to experience the magic of an MLB game live, in person.

A DIY Arizona Diamondbacks Tour Package

When you do a search for “Arizona Diamondbacks Tour Package“, you’ll get a ton of results with tour companies willing to plan your sports road trip for you. I used one of these sports tour companies for my first ever sports road trip to Green Bay for a Packers NFL game, and can attest that they do a great job, but be aware they will charge a healthy premium for their services.

Why pay a premium to a specialty sports tour travel agency, when it’s super easy to book your own sports trip to see an Arizona Diamondbacks home game at Chase Field? Ever since my very first sports road trip to see Brett Favre play at Lambeau, I’ve been saving money by booking my own sports road trips. I’ve been doing this for over a decade now and I am excited to share my knowledge with you how easy it is to go to an MLB game in Phoenix, AZ!

My guide to attending an Arizona Diamondbacks home game takes you step-by-step through everything you need to know to have an incredible sports road trip. I’ll guide you through how to get to Phoenix, where the D-backs play, how to find great seats at Chase Field, fun things to do in Phoenix and so much more.

How to Get to Phoenix, AZ

Flying to Phoenix

MLB fans flying to Phoenix will land at the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX). Served by every major airline in America, and several international carriers, the Phoenix airport is the 8th busiest airport in the United States. This means it’s really easy to find a great flight into Phoenix.

Located just east of downtown Phoenix, it’s a super-short 10 minute drive from the airport to Chase Field in downtown Phoenix, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The outside of the Arizona Diamondbacks baseball stadium in downtown Phoenix.

Chase Field is close enough to the airport that you can take a quick & cheap Uber ride. If you are just sticking close to downtown Phoenix, then you probably don’t need a rental car. However, if your travels take you to onwards to Glendale for an Arizona Cardinals game, to Scottsdale for some golfing or Sedona for some hiking, then you’ll probably want the freedom a rental car gives you.

Driving to Phoenix

With 5 million residents, Phoenix is a very large American city. Despite its size, Phoenix has a good highway system, making it easy to get around by car. Granted, with up to 48,000 Diamondbacks fans leaving Chase Field Stadium at the same time, the post-game traffic can get pretty congested for quite a while.

If you are taking your own car on an MLB road trip to Phoenix, keep in mind you’ll need to find a hotel near Chase Field which offers parking. I provide recommendations on Chase Field hotels below.

As you’ll see below, my sports road trip to Phoenix was part of a 7-day trip which included stops in downtown Phoenix, Sedona and Glendale. I found it quite easy to get around Phoenix in my rental car.

Where do the Arizona Diamondbacks Play?

In 1995, Phoenix was granted an MLB expansion team for play in the 1998 season. To prepare for their inaugural season, the franchise built a brand-new baseball-only stadium in downtown Phoenix.

In time for the first pitch in franchise history, Bank One Ballpark opened its doors. The Diamondbacks played in Bank One Ballpark until 2005, when the stadium changed its name to Chase Field – the name it continues to have today.

Chase Field

When it was built, Chase Field had the distinction of being the first MLB stadium to feature a retractable roof over a natural grass playing surface. (They switched to artificial turf in 2019).

With a seating capacity of 48,405 for baseball games, Chase Field is the second largest stadium in the MLB (Dodger Stadium being #1 with 56,000).

The exterior of the Arizona Diamondbacks stadium.

Where is Chase Field?

As mentioned, Chase Field has a very convenient location in the south-east corner of downtown Phoenix. This area of downtown Phoenix is a bit of a sports district, with the Footprint Center (the home of the Phoenix Suns) being only 1 block away.

If you stay at a hotel in downtown Phoenix, it’s really easy to walk to the Diamondbacks games – most hotels are within a 15 minute walk of the stadium.

Is Chase Field in a Safe Neighborhood?

Chase Field is located in downtown Phoenix, so you may be wondering how safe it is. Anytime you have a sports stadium in the middle of downtown in any major American city, it’s not going to be the safest neighborhood in town.

According to CrimeGrade.org, the downtown core of Phoenix has been given a grade of “F” – the worst ranking you can get. A grade of “F” means that 95% of cities in America are safer. This sounds bad, but is very typical of a sports stadium in a downtown area.

Looking back at downtown Phoenix from the plaza at Chase Field.
The area of downtown Phoenix just outside the stadium.

For what it’s worth, I spent a lot of time in downtown Phoenix before and after the Arizona Diamondbacks game and the Green Day concert at Chase Field game. Although there were many transient people around, I felt reasonably safe. With thousands of baseball fans pouring into (and later, out of) Chase Field, there were lots of people around, along with a healthy police presence.

If you are concerned about your safety in downtown Phoenix, I’d recommend either finding a secure place to park your car near the area, or get a good hotel near Chase Field.

Parking at Chase Field

As you’d expect, there are plenty of parking spots around Chase Field. If you are worried about safety, you can park at one of the two large parking garages nearest the stadium: The Chase Field Garage or the Jefferson Street Garage.

I parked at my hotel for the Diamondbacks game, but I did park at the Chase Field Garage for the Chase Stadium tour. It’s a large parking garage literally right next door to the stadium.

You can reserve parking at either of these lots with ParkWhiz, the preferred parking partner of the Diamondbacks

Take the Valley Metro Rail to Chase Field

An alternative to stadium parking is to take the Valley Metro Rail to Chase Field on game day. The 3rd St/Jefferson station is located just one block away from the Diamondbacks stadium. This strategy is good if you want to save money by not staying at a downtown Phoenix hotel.

Get more details on taking the Valley Metro Rail to an Arizona Diamondbacks game here.

Best Arizona Diamondbacks Games to Get Tickets For

As a team that has made the World Series two times over its history (winning the title once!), the Arizona Diamondbacks have developed some great rivalries over the years. Whenever one of the teams the Arizona Diamondbacks have a rivalry with comes to Chase Field, it’s virtually guaranteed to be an exciting game.

Games Against Division Rivals

The Arizona Diamondbacks play in the NL West division in the National League. There are four other teams in the NL West including the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants and the Colorado Rockies.

Of their NL West rivals, the Arizona Diamondbacks biggest rival is the Los Angeles Dodgers. In recent years there has been a lot of animosity between these teams, including several bench clearing brawls. In 2013, several Dodgers’ players celebrated eliminating the Diamondbacks by jumping into the iconic swimming pool at Chase Field – very disrespectful! There’s not a lot of love lost between these two teams!

I was lucky enough to go to a Diamondbacks game at Chase Field against division rivals San Francisco Giants. This mid-September game had playoff implications for the Diamondbacks, and I was impressed by how many Giants fans made the trip to Phoenix.

Games Against Iconic MLB Teams

Who could pass up seeing the Diamondbacks play a legendary MLB team such as the New York Yankees or the Boston Red Socks? Being American League teams, these franchises may not play in Phoenix each season, so keep an eye out for this opportunity!

But lucky for Diamondbacks fans, two of Major League Baseball’s most iconic teams (the LA Dodgers and the San Francisco Giants) are in the same division as the Diamondbacks! This means that the Diamondbacks will play the Dodgers and Giants at least 6 times at Chase Field each season.

2025 Arizona Diamondbacks Home Schedule

With 81 home games spread over 27 different series, there’s going to be a lot of great Arizona Diamondbacks home games in 2025! There’s simply too many games to list individually, but there are five series which are notable:

A look at the diamond from the upper decks of the Arizona D-backs stadium.

Opening Series vs. Chicago Cubs (March 27-30, 2025)

The Diamondbacks kick off their 2025 season at home with a four-game series against the Chicago Cubs. Opening Day in Major League Baseball is always special, and this matchup against a legendary baseball team like the Cubs makes it a highly anticipated event.

Mother’s Day Weekend Series vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (May 8-11, 2025)

As mentioned, the Dodgers are the Diamondbacks biggest rivals, so this Mother’s Day weekend matchup adds extra significance to the series. The Dodgers are perennial playoff contenders, making these games crucial for the Diamondbacks.

Father’s Day Weekend Series vs. San Diego Padres (June 13-15, 2025)

Another NL West rivalry, the Padres have been a strong team in recent seasons. Playing them on Father’s Day weekend will add excitement, and the games will have an important impact the division standings.

Fourth of July Weekend Series vs. Kansas City Royals (July 4-6, 2025)

Mascot versions of legendary D-backs players roam through the seats at Chase Field.
Recognize any of these legendary D-backs players?

Celebrating Independence Day at the ballpark is an American tradition, and this holiday series against the Royals will feature fireworks both on and off the field.

Season Finale Series vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (September 23-25, 2025)

The Diamondbacks conclude their home schedule with a three-game series against the Dodgers. These games could have playoff implications for both teams and will be the last chance for fans to see the Diamondbacks play at home in the regular season.

Finding The Best Seats at Chase Field

With a seating capacity in excess of 48,000, there’s a great seat at Chase Field for everyone! Based on my experiences, here are my recommendations to find the best seats for your upcoming Arizona Diamondbacks home game:

Infield Box Seats Behind Home Plate (Lower Level)

I’ve been to many games around the MLB, but I’ve only been lucky enough to sit behind home plate once, and that was for my first game at Chase Field.

The view from behind home plate is incredible. From this amazing vantage point, you’ll get to see every pitch, swing, and defensive play develop right in front of you.

I like how the view from these seats allow you to experience the strategy of the game up close and personal. Being so close to the field, you can also enjoy watching the interactions between the players and umpires, adding an extra layer to the baseball experience.

A view of an Arizona Diamondbacks game from Section 122, Row 33.
My seats in Section 122 – Row 33.

The seating area behind home plate is divided into three sections:

1. The Clubhouse Box seats occupy the first few rows and are among the most expensive seats in Chase Field. These seats enjoy access to private lounges and in-seat service.

2. The Home Plate Box seats are immediately behind the Clubhouse Box seats. They are slightly less expensive and do not come with private lounge access. Being higher up, one could argue they are better seats than the Clubhouse Box seats.

3. The remaining seats behind home plate are in the Infield Box sections. At nearly half the price of the Home Plate Box seats, these are still some of the more expensive seats for Diamondbacks games, but they offer great value and views of the field, compared to the more expensive seats below. These are just ‘normal’ baseball tickets with no premium services or amenities included – just awesome views of the ball game!

For my first Diamondbacks game at Chase Field, I sat in Section 122, row 33. My Infield Box seat was right behind home plate and I enjoyed an exceptional view of the entire field, yet close enough to feel part of it. Of all the MLB games I’ve been to, these seats were my favorites!

Dan Brewer, owner of the Ultimate Sports Road trip blog, stands at his Diamondbacks seat in Section 122 at Chase Field.

My Recommended Sections at Chase Field for Behind Home Plate

In my opinion, the best seats in Chase Field are in Section 122, which is immediately behind home plate. If this section is full, or if you don’t mind a little bit of an angle, Sections 119 – 125 are excellent choices too.

Diamond Level Seats Between the Bases

For a fantastic view of the action without an excessive price tag, the Diamond Level club level seats between the bases offer a great compromise.

These club level seats offer a clear, elevated view of the entire playing field, making it easy to see plays develop. Ticket holders in the Diamond Level at Chase Field get exclusive access to private executive lounges and in-seat service.

I got to see the Diamond Level seats during my Chase Field stadium tour and thought they looked like excellent seats – the views of the playing field were exceptional. I was surprised to find they were approximately the same price as my Infield Box seat in section 122.

Best Value Seats – Lower Bowl Corners

So… the Infield Box seats are the best seats in Chase Field, but they are also among the most expensive tickets in the ballpark. If you are looking for good value for your money, check out the lower bowl corner sections. In Chase Field, these sections are described as the Baseline Reserve and Bullpen Reserve sections.

These seats in sell for roughly half of what the Infield Box seats sell for, but they still offer a great view of the action. In these seats, you still feel close enough to be in the game, especially when the play comes to your side of the field. The energy in these sections is usually high, and the fans here tend to be passionate.

One downside of the lower level corner seats is that when the play is on the opposite end of the field, it can feel pretty far away. To mitigate this effect somewhat, sit in row 10 or higher.

My Recommended Sections at Chase Field for Lower Bowl Corners

Along the first baseline, the Baseline Reserve seats are sections 109-111, while along the 3rd baseline, the Dugout Reserve seats are found in sections 133-135.

Fun Cheap Seats – The Outfield Bleachers

These Diamondbacks tickets are for fans who want to enjoy some MLB action without breaking the bank. These affordable Chase Field tickets are great for fans who love the excitement of having a chance to catch a home run ball.

These seats are a ton of fun, but the downside is that they can feel pretty far from the infield action.

My Recommended Sections at Chase Field for Fun Cheap Seats

Home runs at Chase Field are pretty evenly spread between left field and right field, so which side you sit on is based on your personal preference. The left field bleachers are in sections 139 – 144, while the right field bleachers are in sections 101 – 105.

Unique and Fun Seating Options at Chase Field

One of the things I was most impressed about during my visits to Chase Field was the number of fun & unique seating options for Diamondbacks games. Two of my favorites include:

The Swimming Pool

Incredibly, Chase Field has a real swimming pool (and hot tub) in right field!! Parties who rent the swimming pool at Chase Field will enjoy one of the most unique seating opportunities in Major League Baseball. In addition to the incredibly fun place to watch the game, guests will enjoy an all-inclusive food & drink experience.

Watching a Diamondbacks game from the swimming pool at Chase Field is one of the most unique seating opportunities in MLB.
Wow!!! Can you imagine?!?

All-You-Can-Eat Seats

Ever dream of having unlimited ballpark food at a baseball game? Well, now your dreams can come true in the Bar S All-You Can-Eat Eats. Located on the Diamond Level in left field, Diamondbacks fans will enjoy unlimited hot dogs, popcorn, peanuts, chips, and soft drinks! These seats are found in sections 221-223.

How to Buy Arizona Diamondbacks Tickets

SeatGeek is the the official ticket seller for the Arizona Diamondbacks. It’s usually super easy to hop onto SeatGeek and find a great ticket in the primary ticket market for the ball game of your choice.

If, for some reason, tickets in the section you want are not available, then you may need to check out the reseller market. SeatGeek is also a secondary market seller for the Diamondbacks, but you can also check out Ticketmaster and StubHub.

Best Hotels for an Arizona Diamondbacks Home Game

If you are attending an Arizona Diamondbacks home game from out of town, you’ll need to find a good place to stay near Chase Field. How to Dress for an Arizona D-backs Home Game

The fact that Chase Field has a retractable roof makes it a little more difficult to know how to dress for the game. In general, the roof will be closed during daytime games. There’s a better chance of the retractable roof being open during night games, but only if the outside temperatures are cool enough for the fans and players to remain comfortable.

As a baseball stadium in the hottest major city in the USA, you can bet that Chase Field has a powerful air conditioning system. The stadium keeps the temperature nice and comfortable, roughly around 78°F. If anything, I found it a little cold inside the stadium, even though it was 95°F outside.

The vast majority of baseball fans at the Diamondbacks game were dressed in shorts and a t-shirt.

Chase Field Guide

In this guide to attending an Arizona Diamondbacks game at Chase Field, I’ve included all the important details to ensure you have the best sports road trip ever. Stadium policies are changing all the time, so rather than list them here, take a few minutes to review the the Chase Field “A-Z Guide“.

This handy stadium guide explains everything from parking, to the alcohol and bag policies. I highly recommend flipping through the guide before your D-backs game to ensure you are fully prepared.

The Case Field sign outside the stadium is held up by three large baseball bats.

One thing to note, is that the Diamondbacks has a clear bag policy. If you want to bring sunscreen, sunglasses, etc. to the game, make sure it’s in a clear bag which complies with the Diamondbacks clear bag policy.

Before you go to your first Arizona Diamondbacks home game, take some time to look at the Chase Field map and seating chart. A variety of useful Chase Field maps are found on the Arizona Diamondbacks website.

Best Things to do in Phoenix on Game Days

Chase Field Stadium Tour

On my very first sports road trip to Green Bay, one of my favorite memories was going on a Lambeau Field stadium tour. Now, whenever I go on a sports road trip, I try to go on a stadium tour before the game.

I went on a stadium tour the afternoon before my first Arizona Diamondbacks game and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This 2-hour tour of Chase Field Stadium took us (almost) everywhere in the stadium.

Dan Brewer, of the UltimateSportsRoadTrip travel blog, pretends to give an Arizona Diamondbacks press conference during a tour of Chase Stadium.
We had a lot of laughs in the press conference room.

To me, the highlight of my State Farm Stadium tour was the opportunity to walk through all of the seating areas in the stadium, giving me a full grasp of the various experiences in the stadium. It was especially fun to walk next to the playing field in the Clubhouse Box seats. Touring the Diamond Level was also fun, as both of these areas are usually off-limits to fans without tickets in these areas.

Our tour guide was amazing and I had a great time on my tour of Chase Field. Regardless of whether you are a die-hard D-backs fan, or just visiting Phoenix on an MLB road trip, taking a Chase Field Stadium Tour is an essential part of your sports road trip.

 Arizona Diamondbacks Hall of Fame

The Arizona D-backs have accomplished a lot in their short time as a Major League Baseball franchise, including winning the 2001 World Series. The Diamondbacks Hall of Fame celebrates the legacy of its players, coaches, broadcasters and more who have contributed to the legacy of this team.

Located on the main level concourse in the outfield, the Diamondbacks Hall of Fame is free for all fans to visit while attending a game.

I was lucky enough to visit the D-backs Hall of Fame during my stadium tour, so I could spend more time looking at the exhibits without battling the gameday crowds.

Best Things to do in Phoenix Aside from a Diamondbacks Game

Phoenix is one of those special cities which has so much to offer visitors over and above going to a baseball game. Personally, I spent 7 days enjoying the best Phoenix has to offer.

I highly recommend spending as much time as you can in Phoenix around your Diamondbacks game day. To help you plan your days, check out my guide to planning a boys’ trip to Phoenix.

My Phoenix Sports Road Trip

To be honest, the primary reason for my trip to Phoenix wasn’t to see an Arizona Diamondbacks game – it was to see the Green Day Saviors tour at Chase Field. But I did some digging and found some awesome things to do in Phoenix around the concert, including a Diamondbacks game.

Green Day Saviors Tour at Chase Field Stadium in Phoenix, AZ.

I flew into Phoenix on a Wednesday, the morning the Green Day concert (which was awesome!). I then spend a couple of days hiking in Sedona, AZ – one of the most beautiful destinations in the USA.

On Saturday afternoon, I headed to Glendale, AZ in time for my State Farm Stadium tour. I love stadium tours, especially if I’m going to a game shortly thereafter.

All of Sunday was spent enjoying the Arizona Cardinals game. I arrived at State Farm Stadium a few hours before the game, and walked around the stadium, enjoying all the fun pre-game activities. And, of course, the Lions vs. Cardinals game was so fun!

NFL fans cheer on as the Arizona Cardinals vs. Detroit Lions game at State Farm Stadium.

And, the icing on the cake was an Arizona Diamondbacks game on Monday night. I had all day to have some fun, so in the morning I went kayaking on the Lower Salt River and then went on a Chase Field stadium tour in the early afternoon.

With so many sports and entertainment options, I had an awesome time on my sports road trip to Phoenix!
