State Farm Stadium in Glendale, AZ (deep in the NW suburbs of Phoenix) has played host to countless concerts and sporting events since it opened its doors in 2006. Primarily the home of the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals, State Farm Stadium has welcomed virtually every major recording artist, such as Taylor Swift, Metallica, U2, Luke Combs and more!
With so many amazing things to do in Phoenix, you may have a hard time deciding where to stay on your sports road trip. But, if you are going to a Cardinals game, I recommend getting a hotel around the stadium, if only for a night or two. To help you choose, I’ve listed my choices for the best hotels near State Farm Stadium.
As you browse my recommended hotels near State Farm Stadium, don’t forget that you are going to Glendale for a football game or concert, and not necessarily the hotel. If you have a limited budget, I recommend spending more on your Arizona Cardinals game tickets or concert tickets and less on your hotel. In my experience, you won’t even remember your hotel room, but you will remember the great seats you had for your event at State Farm Stadium!

Where Is State Farm Stadium?
Unlike the other Phoenix sports franchises (the Suns and Diamondbacks), who play in downtown Phoenix, State Farm Stadium is on the very edge of greater Phoenix in the city of Glendale. The great thing about building a stadium on the edge of town is the plentiful land for parking, etc.
The bad news is that the city needs to build itself up around the stadium. Thankfully, in the nearly 20 years since State Farm Stadium has opened, Glendale has built itself up around the stadium nicely. There’s a theme park, a massive shopping complex, and an enormous amount of parking.
Unlike downtown Phoenix, which has a large number of hotels for business travelers, Glendale only has a handful of hotels near the stadium.
Staying at a hotel near State Farm Stadium means that fans traveling to Glendale won’t need to worry about post-game traffic congestion or a long drive back to downtown Phoenix after their Cardinals game.

Tips for Getting a Hotel near State Farm Stadium
As I mentioned above, there’s a large shopping complex just north of State Farm Stadium called the Westgate Entertainment District. This shopping area has tons of great shops and plenty of restaurants to enjoy during you visit to Glendale. As it happens, all the hotels which are conveniently close to State Farm Stadium are located within or close to this shopping area.
But, keep in mind that there’s only a small handful of hotels near State Farm Stadium, so if you want to stay nearby for your Cardinals game, I recommend booking early.
The 5 Best Hotels Near State Farm Stadium
Ok, all that said, lets get to my list of the five best State Farm Stadium hotels in Glendale, AZ!
1. Renaissance Phoenix Glendale Hotel & Spa
If you are looking for the ultimate in convenience, book a stay at the Renaissance Phoenix Glendale Hotel & Spa. The Renaissance is tied for the closest hotel to State Farm Stadium. It’s so close that I could see it frequently as I walked around the exterior of the stadium.
The Renaissance Phoenix Glendale Hotel is at the top of my list as it has the best location of the five properties. Not only is it one one of the closest hotels to the Cardinals stadium, it’s also right next to the Westgate Entertainment District, and the Desert Diamond Arena.
Of the five State Farm Stadium hotels on my list, the Renaissance is also the most luxurious hotel. When you are not golfing, shopping or at the Cardinals game, you can enjoy their heated outdoor pool, the full-service spa or have a drink watching sports at the onsite Rays Bar Soleil Restaurant.
The Renaissance Phoenix Glendale Hotel & Spa earned top spot on my list of Cardinals hotels due to it’s winning combination of location and amenities.
2. Tru by Hilton Phoenix Glendale Westgate
Along with the Renaissance hotel, the Tru by Hilton Phoenix Glendale Westgate is the other property tied for the title of the closest hotel to State Farm Stadium.
I really liked the fun & colorful design of the Tru by Hilton hotel, which is designed to appeal to younger travelers. Guys traveling on a boys’ trip to Phoenix will love that the lobby of the hotel was designed to be a social hub. Here, you an enjoy pool tables and a fun games room.
The Tru by Hilton Phoenix Glendale Westgate hotel also offers an outdoor pool, a fitness center and an outdoor firepit with a view of the stadium. It’s within easy walking distance of the shops and restaurants of the Westgate Entertainment District and the Tanger Outlet shopping center.
Football fans looking for more affordable accommodations near State Farms Stadium will enjoy the fun environment at the Tru by Hilton Phoenix Glendale Westgate hotel.
3. Home2 Suites by Hilton Glendale Westgate
Located right next door to the Tru hotel, the Home2 Suites by Hilton Glendale Westgate hotel is a great choice for Cardinals fans who don’t want to eat out three times a day. Each room in this modern hotel offers a full kitchen, allowing you to buy groceries and make your own meals.
Personally, I hate eating out three times a day – I get sick of restaurant food pretty quickly. Home2 Suites by Hilton offers a free hot breakfast, so I’d pig out at breakfast, then use my kitchen facilities to make a healthier, lighter lunch.
Then I’d head to the Westgate Entertainment District to enjoy dinner at one of the many great restaurants. Alternately, you can fire up one of the poolside BBQ’s and make your own feast for dinner.
Another great amenity the Home2 Suites by Hilton Glendale Westgate hotel offers guys on a Phoenix road trip is the 1-bedroom hotel room. When I travel with friends, I don’t love sharing a hotel room, so this room configuration gives you each a private space at the end of the day.
4. Hampton Inn & Suites Phoenix Glendale-Westgate
Another high-quality hotel by Hilton, the Hampton Inn & Suites Phoenix Glendale-Westgate hotel is the last of the really close hotels near State Farm Stadium. Located right next door to the Home2 Suites, you’re still within an 8-minute walk to the Pat Tillman statue near Gate 2.
The Hampton Inn has a solid offering for NFL fans, with a free hot breakfast, a fitness center and an outdoor pool with a hot tub.
Compared to the other State Farm Stadium hotels on my list, the Hampton Inn & Suites is often more affordable on Cardinals game days. My golden rule for sports road trips is to spend less on hotel rooms and more on your event tickets, so this makes the Hampton Inn an attractive hotel option for your Cardinals game.
5. Aloft Glendale at Westgate
Last, but not least, on my list of good hotels near the Cardinals stadium, is the Aloft Glendale at Westgate hotel. The Aloft Westgate hotel is located on the northern end of the Westgate Entertainment District, but it’s still only a 17 minute walk to State Farm Stadium.
Similar to the Tru by Hilton hotel, the Aloft Glendale hotel has a young, vibrant and trendy design. If you’re looking for some fun, the onsite W XYZ bar is a popular hangout before or after the game.
In addition to great amenities such as an outdoor pool, the Aloft Glendale hotel is one of the few pet-friendly hotels on my list.
Affordable Hotels near State Farm Stadium
If you have been to my sports road trip website before, you’ll notice that I usually shy away from the big price tags found on hotel rooms near NFL stadiums on gameday weekends. My experience in Glendale was no different. The above hotels are all excellent & convenient options for accommodations for an Arizona Cardinals game, but the nightly room rates were a bit more than I was willing to pay.
For my sports road trip to Phoenix, I ended up staying at the Comfort Suites Glendale – State Farm Stadium hotel for the night before the Cardinals game. I chose the Comfort Inn as it was way more affordable and offered free breakfast and free parking.
I spent all my time in the area around the stadium and the nearby shops and restaurants, so I didn’t get to enjoy the fitness center, outdoor pool or hot tub.
The only downside to this hotel is that its a bit far. On game day, I walked from the Comfort Inn to the Cardinals stadium in 30 minutes. It’s about a 2-mile walk each way, which I can easily do with little-to-no effort, but it was pushing 100°F outside, which made it less enjoyable.
A better plan for me would have been to enjoy the cheaper room rates at the Comfort Suites Glendale hotel, then drive to the game (instead of walking). Unlike many NFL stadiums, parking at State Farm Stadium is cheap and plentiful.
State Farm Stadium Tickets
I hope my list of great hotels near State Farm Stadium helped you find the perfect accommodations for your trip to Glendale. Now that you have your Glendale hotel picked out, it’s time to pick up your event tickets.
Please take my advice to heart – regardless of whether you want to attend an Arizona Cardinals game, or a big name concert, I encourage you to spend the majority of your road trip budget on your event tickets (and less on your hotel room).
